Bhimber is the southernmost of the eight districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir it borders Indian-administered Kashmir to the east. The district has an area of 1516 Square Kilo meter.

History
The area is very rich in archaeological remains due to its strategic location. It lies on the route that was followed by the Mughal Emperors for their frequent visits to the Kashmir Valley.Due to such important location it was called Gateway to Kashmir (Bab-e-Kashmir).
Until 1995 Bhimber was a sub-division (tehsil) of Mirpur District. In 1996 the Tehsil of Bhimber was removed from Mirpur and made into a separate district.

Climate

The southern zone Mirpur Division has a similar climate to the neighboring areas of Punjab, hot summer temperature is often over 45 C from May to September and cold winter, rainfall is concentrated in the monsoon from late June to the end of August. There is often a prolonged dry period from October to early January followed by winter rains from mid-January to March.
Location
The district is bounded by Mirpur district to the northwest (and is 50 km from Mirpur city), and Punjab province in the west and south. It also shares borders with Indian administered Kashmir to the east.

Bhimber Tehsil

Bhimber the district headquarters is an historical town, discussed by Mughal Emperor, “Jahangir” in his book “Tush-e-Jahangir”. Was falls on the route that was followed by the Mughal Emperors for their frequent visits to the Kashmir Valley. Bhimber town is located at a distance of 50 kms from Mirpur and 166 kms from Rawalpindi. This town is connected both with Mirpur &Gujrat through all weather black top roads. All the basic amenities of life are available in Bhimber.

Jandi Chontra
This scenic spot is situated at 17kms from Bhimber and 67kms from Mirpur. Despite its panoramic views, this area is well-known due to the shrine of Baba shadi Shaheed nearby Jandi Chontra that values the importance of the area. A tourist Rest House serves the visitors/ tourists by providing accommodation facilities.

Baghsar

Baghsar, 975 meter is elevation in an ideal tourist resort in the Samahni Valley. The Sar, local name for a lake is nearly half kilometer long sheet of crystal-clear water that soothes the senses of a visitor after traveling 64 kilometers journey from Gujrat via Bhimber. On the top of hill is a famous Mughal fort overlooking the.lake that adds grandeur to the whole area. This four-storied massive structure of granite is a feat of Mughal engineering that has stood the ravages is a feat of Mughal played important roles in the history during the times of Ahmed Shah Abdali, Ranjeet Sing and Gulab Sing. It is said that Emperor Jahangir on his way back from Kashmir fell ill ultimately expired in this fort.
